To promote industries that expand employment, we try to establish an industrial base that meets the needs of the times and invite corporations to an industrial complex that takes advantage of the convenient traffic site. We also try to maintain and develop industries by developing products with high added value, such as promoting the production of Yame tea, known as the Yame brand, and preparing an appropriate agricultural product market. We promote long-stay tourism and experience-based tourism by using tourism resources. We are working to create a lively, vital city by expanding the number of visitors. (P37)We try to achieve citizen participation and healthy financial and administrative operation with the goal of creating a city where the local government makes plans with the citizens. We try to improve community development through the participation of citizens by opening a collaboration café, working together in community development, and nurturing the local community. We work to promote financial and administrative innovation with the goal of maintaining healthy finances and an efficient administration. We promote multifaceted regional cooperation witha settlement and independence plan and develop cultural exchanges with cities in Japan and overseas.Citizen participation and healthy financial and administrative operation(P38)Four regular meetings are held each year and ad hoc meetings are held as necessary. The council members deliberate to determine municipal policies and important matters suggested by the mayor and then monitor that the municipal administration is properly functioning. The council and the mayor stand on equal footing as a check and balance for each other, work in harmony, and try to achieve a good municipal administration. The council members are elected every four years. The full number of members is 22 (26 until April 2019). The council promotes community development in cooperation with the citizens, secures fairness and transparency, is open to the citizens, and works together with the citizens as a presence of trust by the citizens.Council / Greetings from the MayorPromoting industries(P35)We work to improve health and welfare by responding to a society with a decreasing birthrate and an aging population with the goal of creating a city where people can independently lead a safe, secure life. In today’s aging society with fewer children, the preparation of an appropriate welfare and child-rearing environment is an important issue. We increased the number of nurseries and created the environment where childcare support can be provided within the local community. Also, we try to improve support for families with children based on our childrearing support facilities Yamekko Future House. We are a “healthy city” and try to improve citizens’ health with the goal of extending the healthy life expectancy and improving the local medical organizations. Improving health and welfare(P36)We try to promote education and culture with the goal of creating a city that nurturesa zest for living and richness of the mind. We improve education to help the children of the next generation acquire a passion for living while acquiring academic skills, richness of the mind, and healthy bodies in cooperation with schools, the city, and the home. We also provide learning opportunities and create an environment for lifelong learning where citizens can study independently. We promote globalization and peace projects to create a city where all citizens respect each other and hand over valuable peace to the next generation.Promoting education and cultureWe work to create a living environment with the goal of creating a people- and nature-friendly space. Rich forests and beautiful rivers within the city belong to the citizens. We will preserve the valuable natural environment and reinforce the garbage strategy and water supply and sewage system to create an environment-oriented society where people can comfortably enjoy their lives. Also, we will work to create a good living space by preserving the beautiful scenery of the area through the preservation of traditional buildings and terraced paddy fields and by maintaining the municipal house, parks, and green areas as refreshing places for citizens.
